Some good things about South Central would have to be the schools improvement an example of that would be all the locke’s schools . Another good thing about South Central would be the voilence has decreased by alot . One thing South Central can improve would be the littering problem because we gotta keep our environment clean . Overall , I love living in South Central & the school’s here are awsomee like Locke 2 (:
Three events we have studied that have had the greatest impact on us today would have to be Gang History , Crack Epidemic , & LA riots .
The first event that has made a big impact today would have to be the LA riots . This is important because it affected many people & there families . It also caused a lot of damages to the community & the environment . Many gang violence & drugs were going on . No one really bothered to help out . The LA riots started because the beating of Rodney King & The murder of Latasha Harlins . Both cases were taken as a not serious thing . The Riots lasted up to 5 days in total . In the end , 53 people were killed . Over $1 billion in damages were done . Riots also occurred in San Francisco , Oakland , Las Vegas , Seattle , & Chicago . The only way they were finally heard was through the extreme acts that came to be called the LA RIOTS !
The second event that has made a impact on LA has to be Gang history . This has had a great amount of impact because many kids have been invloved with gangs . This event is important because many people have died over gang wars & other stuff . I know that In the 1960’s Many gang members started to join organizations such as The Black Panthers & The Brown Berets . These Groups wanted to Black & Brown communities to control businesses , employment and education . A Good example of this would have to be Bunchy Carter . He became the leader of The Black Panther Party in LA . In the 1980’s the increase of huge gangs increased but all they did was create violence & crimes .
The third event that has made a big impact in LA has been Crack Epidemic . The crack epidemic all started when the US paid Nicaraguans to fight the communists Sandinistas , stating a civil war in Nicaragua . Us Didn’t have money to pay so they startd selling crack in the streets of LA . This Caused many deaths & pain . Many people died . People became addicted , Many families separated .. Nothing was looking good ! After this horrible epidemic nothing was looking so good . This made a impact because many people died or some other thing happened either with them or there families .
This three events LA riots , Gang History & Crack Epidemic Made a BIG Extremely impact on us today . It changed the way people think of South Central today . It can also make us look bad . South Central will change in the by many things & many ways .
Salvador (Sal) Castro .
Sal Castro was born in October 25 , 1933 . He was born in Los Angeles . He wasn’t really part of a group but he did help organize the students . One Accomplishment he did was make a change in schools by protesting & walking out with students . In my opinion he was a great leader because he changed the way schools treated the students .
